Choosing your benefits is easy, whether you’re a newly eligible Mountaineer, you’ve experienced a qualifying life event, or it’s the annual Open Enrollment.

Read on to know when to make your choices and why it’s important to review your benefits each year.

There are three opportunities to choose your benefits as a Mountaineer:

1. Open Enrollment

All Mountaineers can review/change current elections during Open Enrollment.
Open Enrollment takes place each fall.
Dependent verification documents must be submitted within 30 days of your enrollment date if adding a new spouse or child(ren).
Elections take effect January 1 of the following year.

2. Qualifying life event

You can only make changes to your benefits outside of Open Enrollment if you have a qualifying life event.
Qualifying life events include marriage, birth, divorce, or loss/gain of coverage outside of Iron Mountain.
You must make changes within 30 days of the event or wait until the next Open Enrollment or qualifying life event.
Life event and dependent verification documents must be submitted within 30 days of your enrollment date.
Changes take effect on the date of the qualifying life event.

3. Newly benefits eligible

New Mountaineers or Mountaineers whose change of employment status qualifies them for benefits eligibility can enroll throughout the year.
You must enroll within 30 days of your hire or benefits eligibility date.
Dependent verification documents must be submitted within 30 days of your enrollment date if adding a new spouse or child(ren).
Elections take effect on your hire date or benefits eligibility date.

Important note: Dependent & Life Event Verification (DLEV) documents are required within 30 days of enrollment.

When to choose your supplemental voluntary benefits

You can also choose supplemental voluntary benefits for your health, financial wellbeing, and security.

Understanding deductions for coverage changes outside of the annual enrollment period

If your benefit elections are effective on a date prior to the current pay period, you’ll incur retroactive deductions back to the effective date. These retroactive deductions will be taken from your future paychecks for the number of pay periods missed after your elections became effective until the amount owed is paid in full. Learn more here.
